{"id":392831,"date":"2020-04-25T14:09:02","date_gmt":"2020-04-25T12:09:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=392831"},"modified":"2020-04-25T14:14:59","modified_gmt":"2020-04-25T12:14:59","slug":"read-south-africas-full-level-4-lockdown-restrictions-here","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/392831\/read-south-africas-full-level-4-lockdown-restrictions-here\/","title":{"rendered":"Read South Africa&#8217;s full level 4 lockdown restrictions here"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Government has published a document with the full details of South Africa&#8217;s lockdown levels, as the country gets ready to enter level 4 from 1 May 2020.<\/p>\n<p>As announced by president Cyril Ramaphosa on Thursday evening (23 April), the country is moving towards a graded alert level system, to determine how strict the country\u2019s lockdown restrictions will be as it continues to battle the coronavirus pandemic, while re-igniting the economy.<\/p>\n<p>To aid in this measured approach, the country will adopt a risk-adjusted strategy made up of five levels, that will determine the risk and infection rate nationally, and in each province, district and metropolitan area.<\/p>\n<p>The approach has been guided by scientists and experts, who have warned that a sudden end to the lockdown will lead to a massive increase in the number of infections, the president said.<\/p>\n<p>The levels, which denote the level of action needed to stop the spread of the virus, are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Level 5 \u2013 drastic measures are required;<\/li>\n<li>Level 4 \u2013 some activity can be allowed, subject to extreme requirements;<\/li>\n<li>Level 3 \u2013 the easing on some restrictions on work and social activities;<\/li>\n<li>Level 2 \u2013 further easing of restrictions, but the maintenance of social distancing;<\/li>\n<li>Level 1 \u2013 most normal activity can resume, with caution and health guidelines followed at all times.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In a broad overview of level 4 of the lockdown, government has expanded the number of industries that can open, while maintaining strict prohibitions on movements and gatherings.<\/p>\n<p>In summary, these are some of the key restrictions for level 4:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A curfew will be in effect from 20h00 to 05h00 each day;<\/li>\n<li>Wearing of cloth masks will be mandatory when moving out of residence;<\/li>\n<li>Essential goods will continue to be sold, joined by hardware supplies, winter clothing and heating, and other industry-related items;<\/li>\n<li>Tobacco products will be back on sale;<\/li>\n<li>Certain industries will only be able to open at half capacity;<\/li>\n<li>E-hailing services are able to operate, while public transport is also limited;<\/li>\n<li>No concerts, cinemas or public gatherings will be allowed;<\/li>\n<li>No alcohol will be sold;<\/li>\n<li>Exercise will be limited, with public gyms remaining closed;<\/li>\n<li>Food delivery will be available, subject to the curfew.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As the country moves to lower levels, many of these restrictions ease up, with more industries able to operate at full capacity, while off-site consumption of alcohol will again be allowed.<\/p>\n<p>At level 2 all levels of retail will be able to open, and domestic workers will be allowed to once again work at private households &#8211; and at level 1, all limits on movement are lifted &#8211; but hygiene practices and social distancing should still be observed.<\/p>\n<p>According to Trade and Industry minister, Ibrahim Patel, the document is in draft format, and is a work in progress, and will be subject to change depending on commentary and engagement with various sector and stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p>The full details can be read in the document below:<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 12px auto 6px auto;
