{"id":39524,"date":"2013-06-06T16:40:47","date_gmt":"2013-06-06T14:40:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=39524"},"modified":"2013-06-07T09:02:30","modified_gmt":"2013-06-07T07:02:30","slug":"pule-reins-in-state-owed-companies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/39524\/pule-reins-in-state-owed-companies\/","title":{"rendered":"Pule reins in state-owed companies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Communications minister <a title=\"Dina Pule\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2128-Dina-Pule\">Dina Pule<\/a> has decided to rein in the heads of state-owned companies (SOCs) to report to her on a monthly basis, the department said on Thursday (6 June 2013).<\/p>\n<p>This is in contrast to the past practice wherein Pule held separate quarterly bilateral meetings with each SOC.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the new process, Pule has instructed the chairpersons, chief executives, chief operating officers of relevant SOCs to meet with her at least once a month to update her on the progress made in the policy commitments she announced in her Budget Vote speech in May.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I decided to streamline how I relate to the SOCs to ensure that, as a department, we improve the quality of service we deliver to our citizens. On the evidence from my revised engagements with the SOCs, I&#8217;m confident we shall meet all the goals we have set ourselves,&#8221; Pule said.<\/p>\n<p>In two meetings held with the leadership of the Independent Communications Regulator of SA (<a title=\"Icasa\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2027-ICASA-Independent-Communications-Authority-of-SA\">Icasa<\/a>), the <a title=\"SABC\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/5190-South-African-Broadcasting-Corporation-%28SABC%29\">SABC<\/a>, <a title=\"Sentech\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2592-Sentech\">Sentech<\/a>, the <a title=\"SA Post Office\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/3206-SAPO-South-African-Post-Office\">SA Post Office<\/a>, <a title=\"Universal Service and Access Agency of SA\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/5535-Usaasa\">Universal Service and Access Agency of SA<\/a> and the eSkills Institute this week, Pule discussed the lowering the cost to communicate as well as the country&#8217;s digital migration.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Department is working closely with Icasa on lowering the cost to communicate.
