Dr Mkhize said on Tuesday (12 May), that the total number of deaths remains at 206, with 4,357 recoveries, unchanged from Monday&#8217;s data.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 369,697 tests have been conducted in total, with 13,630 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">As of today, the total number of confirmed <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/COVID19?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#COVID19<\/a> cases in South Africa is 11 350. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/bFVLvwfhRO\">pic.twitter.com\/bFVLvwfhRO<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Dr Zweli Mkhize (@DrZweliMkhize) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DrZweliMkhize\/status\/1260162479499378688?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 12, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Covid-12-May-2020.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-397161\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Covid-12-May-2020.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"652\" height=\"900\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Covid-12-May-2020.jpg 652w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Covid-12-May-2020-217x300.jpg 217w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 652px) 100vw, 652px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Globally, cronavirus cases moved towards 4.3 million infections, with 287,670 deaths, and more than 1.5 million recoveries.<\/p>\n<p>Wuhan will test its entire population of 11 million after the Chinese city where the pandemic began reported new infections for the first time since its lockdown was lifted, Bloomberg reported.<\/p>\n<p>Six locally transmitted cases, reported May 10 and 11, were found in people already under quarantine classed as being asymptomatic before testing positive, according to the local government.<\/p>\n<p>All six cases emerged from a single residential compound and were the first new infections found in the city since its lockdown was lifted on 8 April.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SA companies applying for essential service certificates\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Portfolio Committee on Trade and Industry today heard during the level 5 lockdown, approximately 270,000 companies applied for essential service certificates.<\/p>\n<p>This was part of briefings by the Companies and Intellectual Properties Commission (CIPC) and the National Credit Regulator (NCR) on its contribution to government\u2019s Covid-19 response.<\/p>\n<p>The committee heard that the CIPC was contacted by Ministry a day after president Cyril Ramaphosa announced a lockdown to develop a system for essential service applications by companies.<\/p>\n<p>To date, as at submission of this presentation, approximately 440,000 companies have applied and received their essential service certificates for level 5 and level 4 lockdown.<\/p>\n<p>The committee further heard that the system does not accept any other form of business namely, a sole proprietor, trading trust, industry body and partnership.<\/p>\n<p>The CIPC\u2019s legal mandate only extends to companies in terms of the law, as there is no way to cross reference information for the above-mentioned.
