{"id":400721,"date":"2020-05-22T11:58:31","date_gmt":"2020-05-22T09:58:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=400721"},"modified":"2020-05-22T13:39:26","modified_gmt":"2020-05-22T11:39:26","slug":"lockdown-time-changes-for-food-delivery-and-public-transport-in-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/motoring\/400721\/lockdown-time-changes-for-food-delivery-and-public-transport-in-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"Lockdown time changes for food delivery and public transport in South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Minister of Transport Fikile Mbalula has removed the prescribed operating times for public transport and food delivery services in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Previously intra-provincial, metropolitan areas and districts public transport was <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.za\/sites\/default\/files\/gcis_document\/202005\/43272gon493s.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">permitted<\/a> <\/strong>to operate from 05h00 to 20h00 with a grace period of an hour within which to complete the journey and drop off at 21h00.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, hot food delivery services were permitted to start from 09h00 and run until 19h00.<\/p>\n<p>However, the latest directive has removed these time frames &#8211; effectively extending the hours during which these services may operate.<\/p>\n<p>A Department of Transport spokesperson said that he could not comment on the latest changes\u00a0 &#8211; as he had not seen them &#8211; but confirmed that this was an issue that the department was working on as commuters complained that they did not have enough time to return home.<\/p>\n<p>He also confirmed that the national curfew (20h00 \u2013 05h00)\u00a0 still applies and that this is not an issue that is regulated by the Department of Transport.<\/p>\n<p>You can read the new directive below.
