But copying and pasting from there into your cover letter will most definitely turn recruiters off.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Odds are they\u2019ve already read your CV \u2014 why would you make them waste their time reading the same thing over again?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cover letters are your opportunity to not only show that you have the background and knowledge needed to do the job well, but that you\u2019re also passionate, charismatic and well-informed, said Moore.<\/p>\n<p>For many people, though, it\u2019s a daunting task. Contact Info:<\/strong> Don\u2019t make recruiters dig through your cover letter to find your name and contact info \u2014 include it up top so they can easily reach out.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Greeting:<\/strong> Forget \u201cTo Whom It May Concern\u201d. If you can find it, address the recruiter\/hiring manager by name.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Intro Paragraph:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Relevant anecdotes, quotes, fun facts, etc. are all good ways to make your opening line stand out.<\/li>\n<li>Make it clear that you know who the company is, what they do and what they care about.<\/li>\n<li>Mention a few roles, projects, experiences, traits or passions that make you the ideal candidate.<\/li>\n<li>If someone at the company has referred you, this is the place to name drop them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>4. Body Paragraph(s):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Incorporate keywords directly from the job description.<\/li>\n<li>Whenever possible, include concrete metrics that illustrate the results you\u2019ve achieved.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>5. Closing Paragraph:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Summarize, don\u2019t plagiarize. Reaffirm your interest, passion and qualifications from earlier in the letter, but don\u2019t make it sound redundant.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>6. Additional:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cover letters should be clean and easy to read \u2014 save the intricate designs and crazy fonts for party invitations.<\/li>\n<li>Like a CV, keep the cover letter to one page.
