MTN<\/a> announced today (23 January 2012) that the company will increase the maximum speed limits on their uncapped broadband packages.<\/p>\n

From 1 February 2012 users of Uncapped Lite packages will be moving from the current limit of 128kbps, to 256kbps after the 3GB limit is reached.<\/p>\n

Uncapped Pro users will have a maximum speed limit lift from 128kbps to 384kbps after the 10GB limit is reached.<\/p>\n

The current promotion, which offered unmetered broadband access, began on 1 October 2011 and will run until 31 January 2012.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a response to customer demands for faster and reliable Internet access at an affordable fixed monthly cost. And with a truly uncapped, no restriction limit. The volumes are astounding,\u201d said MTN.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was impressive to see the consumption rate – which certainly speaks to the value customers are getting from this R289 p\/m promotional package,\u201d said Serame Taukobong<\/a>, Chief Marketing Officer at MTN South Africa. \u201cThe term \u2018uncapped\u2019 data has been bandied around in the industry \u2013 but this is truly the most competitive unlimited promotion on offer today.\u201d<\/p>\n

This promotion\u2019s success has been the impetus for MTN\u2019s decision to revise the Fair Use Policy (FUP) and permanently increasing its maximum speed limits after the limits have been reached.<\/p>\n

This means that high usage customers will then be throttled again after the current promo ending on 31 January 2012, but at higher speeds than previously.<\/p>\n

The increased maximum speeds put MTN in a strong position in the uncapped data market; an area in which it is currently the only mobile operator with an offering.<\/p>\n

Even without the increased speed limits and uncapped data, MTN\u2019s data deals are still great value for money.<\/p>\n

At current data prices, MTN’s offering is significantly cheaper than the 3GB packages available from Cell C and Vodacom, which will likely put pressure on the competing operators.<\/p>\n

Good news for consumers is that MTN\u2019s uncapped deals are not set to be stopped anytime soon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
