{"id":401777,"date":"2020-05-26T11:18:54","date_gmt":"2020-05-26T09:18:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=401777"},"modified":"2020-05-26T11:18:54","modified_gmt":"2020-05-26T09:18:54","slug":"south-africas-lockdown-levels-are-now-based-on-2-criteria-dlamini-zuma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/401777\/south-africas-lockdown-levels-are-now-based-on-2-criteria-dlamini-zuma\/","title":{"rendered":"South Africa&#8217;s lockdown levels are now based on 2 criteria: Dlamini-Zuma"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has provided further information about the country&#8217;s planned move to a level 3 lockdown from 1 June.<\/p>\n<p>Presenting to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) on Tuesday (26 May), Dlamini-Zuma said that government&#8217;s risk-adjusted approach to the lockdown is now focused on two criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The rate of coronavirus infections; and<\/li>\n<li>Government&#8217;s health-system readiness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Dlamini-Zuma said that it would also be these two criteria would determine how districts move between lockdown levels.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The extraordinary measures have assisted us, as at the beginning of the lockdown we were not ready. It is has given a chance to get our health services up and ready for the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We also have to look at the socio-economic impact of the coronavirus. As we rebuild the economy we must look at building sustainable resilient and sustainable communities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She pointed to the below alert system diagram which shows how the virus spread and readiness-levels will be used.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Risk-adjusted.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-401801 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Risk-adjusted.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"831\" height=\"550\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Risk-adjusted.png 1405w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Risk-adjusted-300x199.png 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Risk-adjusted-1024x678.png 1024w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Risk-adjusted-768x508.png 768w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Risk-adjusted-1200x794.png 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 831px) 100vw, 831px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dlamini-Zuma also presented a map of the country&#8217;s major districts and how the differing lockdown levels could be applied.<\/p>\n<p>While Dlamini-Zuma indicated that this is just an outline of how the alert levels will work, it does show how much of the country outside of the major metropolitans could move to lower levels.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Alert-levels.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-401791 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Alert-levels.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"838\" height=\"554\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Alert-levels.png 1414w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Alert-levels-300x198.png 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Alert-levels-1024x677.png 1024w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Alert-levels-768x508.png 768w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Alert-levels-1200x793.png 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 838px) 100vw, 838px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Based on this district-level approach, Dlamini-Zuma confirmed that inter-provincial travel will not be allowed except for business and funerals.<\/p>\n<p>She said that this decision was taken as most of the country&#8217;s coronavirus cases have been reported in the major metropolitans and would lead to a spike in infections in other parts of South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;People will travel up and down and before we know it, provinces we think are safer have become infected.
