Standard Bank has denied a report that it is retrenching 148 information technology employees, saying it was restructuring IT roles in the group.<\/p>\n
Responding to queries about a report that stated the banking group would be dismissing 148 IT employees, Standard Bank spokesman, Erik Larsen clarified the bank’s intentions.<\/p>\n
“Standard Bank has undertaken a thorough review of its IT operations, which has revealed areas of inefficiencies and duplication.”<\/p>\n
“In an effort to get greater levels of operational efficiency and to maximise effective service to our employees and customers, a decision has been made to reduce the number of internal IT support roles within Standard Bank IT.”<\/p>\n
Standard Bank currently employs more than 4,000 IT professionals and has informed financial workers union, Sasbo, and the affected employees of the proposed restructuring of roles within the bank.<\/p>\n
“Standard Bank has entered into consultations with Sasbo and employees to minimize and mitigate the effects of the restructure process,” the bank said.<\/p>\n
All affected employees will have the opportunity of being redeployed elsewhere in the Standard Bank group, and will also receive assistance from Standard Bank in finding alternative employment, it said.<\/p>\n
