{"id":40626,"date":"2013-06-25T11:32:14","date_gmt":"2013-06-25T09:32:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=40626"},"modified":"2015-01-23T13:23:03","modified_gmt":"2015-01-23T11:23:03","slug":"new-sa-id-cards-go-high-tech","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/40626\/new-sa-id-cards-go-high-tech\/","title":{"rendered":"New SA ID cards go high-tech"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gemalto, a Netherlands-based digital security company, recently announced in a press statement that it will be the company supplying the South African Government Printing Works (GPW) with its Sealys eID proximity cards for our national ID card roll-out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGPW selected the high-end Sealys document fitted with the contactless feature, ensuring added levels of convenience with unrivalled security for citizens,\u201d Gemalto said.<\/p>\n<p>Pierre-Luc Arnaud, marketing director for government programmes in Africa at Gemalto, explained that the eID cards coming to South Africa are compliant with the ISO\/EIC 14443 contactless standard.<\/p>\n<p>This same standard is used for Europay, MasterCard, and Visa contactless banking cards or electronic passports, Arnaud said.
