{"id":408907,"date":"2020-06-18T17:16:33","date_gmt":"2020-06-18T15:16:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=408907"},"modified":"2020-06-19T07:28:04","modified_gmt":"2020-06-19T05:28:04","slug":"sun-city-and-other-resorts-are-allowed-to-reopen-here-are-the-proposed-rules-for-casinos-hotels-and-golf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/408907\/sun-city-and-other-resorts-are-allowed-to-reopen-here-are-the-proposed-rules-for-casinos-hotels-and-golf\/","title":{"rendered":"Sun City and other resorts are allowed to reopen &#8211; here are the proposed rules for casinos, hotels and golf"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sun International says that it plans to reopen its resorts, hotels, casinos and restaurants following the further relaxation of South Africa&#8217;s level 3 lockdown rules.<\/p>\n<p>Chief executive officer Anthony Leeming says that once the government announces the official return dates, the group will stagger the reopening of its properties across the country.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our leisure attractions, golf courses and swimming pools will also reopen subject to necessary regulatory guidance,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>While the government has not gazetted the official regulations around the reopening of these leisure facilities, Leeming said that the group has put in place &#8216;world-class health and safety protocols which are considerably beyond what is required&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the group&#8217;s\u00a0properties will observe strict headcounts and social distancing rules.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Prior to the lockdown, we had introduced social distancing queue management, while every alternative seat at our casino slot machines and tables was removed to create space between customers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our restaurant layouts were also reconfigured to increase space between tables and meet headcount limits,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Once the group&#8217;s resorts reopen, Leeming said that it will conduct temperature tests for all customers at our hospitality, leisure and gaming operations, and all guests will need to complete a medical screening questionnaire on arrival at hotels, and in advance for casino visitors.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For the foreseeable future, only members of our loyalty programme &#8211; our Most Valued Guests (MVGs) &#8211; will be allowed access onto the casino floor. It will be mandatory for all visitors to wear cloth masks at all times.&#8221;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Guidelines<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sun International has also published a separate set of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/corporate.suninternational.com\/content\/dam\/suninternational\/corporate\/media-centre\/si-covid-19-policy-and-health-plan.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">guidelines<\/a> <\/strong>which detail the new rules it plans to put in place in more detail.<\/p>\n<p>The guidelines cover a range of topics including casino safety, safety protocols around hotels as well as the new regulations around golf.<\/p>\n<p>These guidelines are outlined in more detail below. These guidelines are only applicable to Sun Internationa&#8217;s resorts and may change depending on government directives.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Casinos<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Employees are required to\u00a0sanitise their hands before starting their shift, between guest interactions and after handling cash;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>All cash desks, card machines and devices, Cash IOs, promo kiosks and MVG desks will be\u00a0sanitised after each guest interaction;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Hand sanitiser will be made available throughout the gaming floors and at tables, for guests to use;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>All tables equipment and furniture will be\u00a0cleaned on a scheduled basis or between games;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>An ongoing\u00a0chip-cleaning program will be implemented on a rotational basis. Sanitiser will also be available for guests to clean their chips;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Only MVG cardholders will be allowed access to the casino;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Capacity on the gaming floor will be limited to between 33% and 50%;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Every second slot machine will be turned off or locked to ensure a 1.5-meter distance;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Blackjack and American Roulette tables will have a maximum of four seats at each table, while Baccarat tables will have five seats;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Seats, tables and booths will be reconfigured with physical barriers or removed to\u00a0allow for appropriate physical distancing;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Sun-International.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-408921 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Sun-International.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1199\" height=\"665\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Sun-International.png 1199w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Sun-International-300x166.png 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Sun-International-1024x568.png 1024w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Sun-International-768x426.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1199px) 100vw, 1199px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Hotels<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Physical-distancing stickers, bollards and\/or tape will be used at all check-in desks;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Peak-period queuing procedures will be implemented when the number of guests exceeds lobby capacity;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Check-in\/out\u00a0counters will be re-arranged to ensure physical distancing between guests and employees;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Capacity in the pools will be limited, and the number of loungers at pool areas will be reduced;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>When arriving, guests must indicate if they want their\u00a0room serviced during their stay;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The\u00a0turn-down service will be terminated at our 3-star Hotels, and will only be available upon request at 4-star and 5-star hotels;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>For long-duration stays, rooms will be\u00a0cleaned every two to three days;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Hand sanitiser with 70% alcohol will be added to our range of guest amenities for guest use during their stay;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Minibars will be stocked with only bottled water.
