{"id":409311,"date":"2020-06-19T20:06:54","date_gmt":"2020-06-19T18:06:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=409311"},"modified":"2020-06-19T20:12:42","modified_gmt":"2020-06-19T18:12:42","slug":"here-are-south-africas-new-lockdown-rules-for-hairdressers-and-salons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/409311\/here-are-south-africas-new-lockdown-rules-for-hairdressers-and-salons\/","title":{"rendered":"Here are South Africa&#8217;s new lockdown rules for hairdressers and salons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Minister of Small Business Development Khumbudzo Ntshavheni has published a directive outlining the new guidelines for the personal care industry as part of South Africa&#8217;s revised level 3 lockdown rules.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The objectives of these protocols (are) to assist employers to establish an environment that mitigates the spread of Covid-19, which if properly implemented and complied with, would assist with the sustainable of health and safety of the employees and customers in the personal care services industry,&#8221; Ntshavheni said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These protocols have been developed to provide a framework to mitigate and manage the Covid-19 outbreak amongst employees and customers in the personal care services industry.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The directive states that the following categories of services that are deemed safe to resume operations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hairdressing;<\/li>\n<li>Barbering;<\/li>\n<li>Nail and toe treatment;<\/li>\n<li>Facial treatment and make-up;<\/li>\n<li>Body massage; and<\/li>\n<li>Tattooing and body piercing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition to the health and safety guidelines which all businesses have to follow, the directive also outlines specific guidelines for both informal and formal salons and parlours.<\/p>\n<p>Formal salons will need to adhere to the following rules:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide a hand sanitising\/hand-washing station for customers before they enter the business premises;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Sanitise\/wash hands after handling cash;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Encourage contactless payment where possible;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Disinfect common areas before and after use including after serving each customer;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Sanitize or wash with soap each equipment or tool before and after each use;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>All bottles with products must be wiped down with a 70% alcohol solution after serving each customer and at the end and beginning of each business day;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Fresh and clean towels must be used for each customer;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Keep windows\/doors open, if possible, to ensure adequate ventilation;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Arrange adequate PPE for employees;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Masks must be worn at all times and the stylist must also wear a face shield\/ visor that must be cleaned after serving each customer;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Aprons and gloves should be changed after each client;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Encourage pre-booking appointments to avoid long queues and waiting period;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Salons must only allow customers inside if the 1.5 -meter distance can be maintained;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Employees and owners above the age of 60 or with comorbidities must be discouraged from working;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Use a booking system for treatment appointment;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>No guests allowed;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Suspend the provision of all beverage and food amenities for customers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The protocols come into effect from the publication of the gazette &#8211;
