{"id":410581,"date":"2020-06-24T16:21:38","date_gmt":"2020-06-24T14:21:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=410581"},"modified":"2020-06-24T16:21:38","modified_gmt":"2020-06-24T14:21:38","slug":"sale-of-virgin-active-delayed-after-gyms-close-due-to-coronavirus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/410581\/sale-of-virgin-active-delayed-after-gyms-close-due-to-coronavirus\/","title":{"rendered":"Sale of Virgin Active delayed after gyms close due to coronavirus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sale of Brait SE\u2019s Virgin Active fitness chain will be delayed as much as 18 months following closures of gyms to help contain the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>Membership fees were frozen during the lockdown that started in March and it\u2019s going to \u201ctake some time to get back to where it was,\u201d said Peter Hayward-Butt, a partner at Ethos Private Equity, which became Brait\u2019s manager on 1 March.<\/p>\n<p>The South African investment firm said in November that it would look to sell assets over the next three to five years as part of a sweeping overhaul.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCovid put a spanner in the works,\u201d Hayward-Butt said in an interview.
