It is followed by Gauteng (23.4%) and the Eastern Cape (17.2%).<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/410255\/these-are-the-areas-in-south-africa-that-will-likely-see-the-first-peak-in-coronavirus-cases-mkhize\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">opening <\/a><\/strong>of a new field hospital in the Eastern Cape on Tuesday (23 June), health minister Dr Zweli Mkhize said that government has studied the unique dynamics in each province and believes that some areas see an earlier peak in cases than others.<\/p>\n<p>Mkhize said provinces, such as the Western Cape and Eastern Cape, now have well-established cluster outbreaks that are driving a surge, and will likely peak first before other provinces.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bt_table\">\n<p>\u201cIn these instances, contact tracing, quarantine and isolation were the biggest weaknesses and the Western Cape, in particular, is having serious challenges in the reluctance of community members to go into quarantine and isolation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn addition, the close economic and social interconnectedness of the Eastern and Western Capes adds complexity to an already volatile epidemiological picture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Premier Alan Winde said that as of 24 June, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/alanwinde\/status\/1275846523503378434\/photo\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Western Cape <\/a><\/strong>had 14,837 active cases of Covid-19, with a total of 54,835 confirmed cases, and 38,433 recoveries.<\/p>\n<p>The City of Cape Town accounts for nearly 43,000 of the total infections, with Tygerberg, Khayelitsha and Klipfontein making up more than half of that total.<\/p>\n<p>The below graphs show the areas with the most cases.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/WesKaap-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-410909 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/WesKaap-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/WesKaap-1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/WesKaap-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/WesKaap-1-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Weskaap-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-410913 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Weskaap-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Weskaap-2.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Weskaap-2-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Weskaap-2-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Gauteng<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The latest mortality data from Gauteng shows that <span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">the bulk of <\/span><span class=\"r-18u37iz\">Covid-19 <\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">fatalities in the province is among the 60-69 age group.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The data, which is from 22 June, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JacaNews\/status\/1276102915577479168\/photo\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">shows<\/a> <\/strong>that 29.1% of deaths in the province fall into this age range.
