{"id":414531,"date":"2020-07-08T13:33:09","date_gmt":"2020-07-08T11:33:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=414531"},"modified":"2020-07-09T08:21:00","modified_gmt":"2020-07-09T06:21:00","slug":"eskom-says-system-constrained-as-cold-front-approaches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/energy\/414531\/eskom-says-system-constrained-as-cold-front-approaches\/","title":{"rendered":"Eskom says system constrained as cold front approaches"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Eskom has urged the public to reduce electricity usage as its generation system remains constrained after losing two generation units \u2013 one each at Medupi and Tutuka \u2013 totalling 1,300MW.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on Wednesday (8 July), Eskom said: &#8220;This morning one generation unit each at the Kendal and Tutuka power stations tripped, adding to the Tutuka unit that tripped yesterday evening.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Eskom teams are hard at work trying to return these units to service.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Eskom said that while the Medupi unit that tripped on Tuesday evening has been successfully returned to service, the power generation system remains constrained.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Any additional breakdowns will compromise Eskom\u2019s ability to supply the country through the peak demand period of 17h00 \u2013 21h00.
