{"id":414721,"date":"2020-07-09T17:34:36","date_gmt":"2020-07-09T15:34:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=414721"},"modified":"2020-07-09T17:34:36","modified_gmt":"2020-07-09T15:34:36","slug":"how-much-money-you-need-to-be-considered-super-rich-in-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wealth\/414721\/how-much-money-you-need-to-be-considered-super-rich-in-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"How much money you need to be considered super rich in South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Consulting firm Capgemini has published its latest World Wealth Report, which tracks the spending and investing habits of the world\u2019s high net worth individuals (HNWIs).<\/p>\n<p>High net worth individuals are defined by the group as those who have investable assets of US$1 million (R17 million) or more \u2013 excluding primary residence, collectables, and consumables.<\/p>\n<p>The investible assets include the value of private equity holdings stated at book value, as well as all forms of publicly quoted equities, bonds, funds and cash deposits \u2013 while also accounting for undeclared savings.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, South Africa had 95,400 HNWIs at the end of 2019, up from 90,100 at the end of 2018, which was the first decline in the HNWI population since 2015.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/HNWIs.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-414743\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/HNWIs.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"753\" height=\"466\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/HNWIs.png 753w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/HNWIs-300x186.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 753px) 100vw, 753px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Despite gaining 5,300 HWNIs in 2019, the average wealth held by these individuals has only grown slightly.<\/p>\n<p>Total wealth held is up to $1.3 trillion, from $1.2 trillion the year before &#8211;
