high risk, versus those deemed to be low risk during the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs businesses begin to reopen and you resume your daily life after Covid-19 closures, use our Risk Index to determine the safety levels of your favourite activities,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.covid19reopen.com\/risk-index\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">it said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The risk level of contracting Covid-19 from different activities vary based on four factors:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enclosed space<\/li>\n<li>Duration of interaction<\/li>\n<li>Crowds \u2013 The density of people and social distancing<\/li>\n<li>Forceful exhalation \u2013 Sneezing, yelling, singing, and coughing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The activities perceived to be <strong>high risk<\/strong> include: indoor parties, night clubs and bars, contact sports, public transport, air travel, concerts, religious services, theatres, and watching sports live.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Medium- to high-risk<\/strong> activities include: exercising in a gym, going to a hairdresser or nail salon, working in an office, and visiting a restaurant.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Medium risk<\/strong> activities include: visiting a hospital, going to the dentist, taking a metered taxi or Uber, visiting a museum, and outdoor restaurant dining.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Low- and low\/medium-risk<\/strong> activities include: staying at home, walking outdoors, picking up fast-food, running, cycling, picnics, tennis, golf, and shopping.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/COVID-19risk-scaled-e1595575171333.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Texas Med<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">It follows a similar list published by the Texas Medical Association (TMA), ranking the risk of infection with Covid-19 for a number of activities.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The index ranks activities on a scale of 1 to 10, reflecting how risky they are in terms of exposure to the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">This list has been ranked by physician experts from the TMA Covid-19 Task Force, and the TMA Committee on Infectious Diseases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/TexasMed.png\"><img sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1275px) 100vw, 1275px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Peak infection <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>South Africa\u2019s Covid-19 cases soared by 13,104 new cases on Thursday, bringing the total infections to 408,052 since the start of the outbreak.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, 153 more people succumbed to the disease, pushing the death toll to 6,093.<\/p>\n<p>Of the additional fatalities, 48 are from the Eastern Cape, 38 from KwaZulu-Natal, 31 from Gauteng, 28 from the Western Cape and eight from the Northern Cape.<\/p>\n<p>In his address to the nation on Thursday, president Cyril Ramaphosa said the country should brace itself for the difficult weeks ahead, as the worst-hit provinces of Gauteng (with 148,854 cases), Western Cape (88,928), Eastern Cape (69,445) and KwaZulu-Natal (53,406) experience a rapid rise in infections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have also seen a levelling-off of infections in the Western Cape since the third week of June.
