{"id":42086,"date":"2013-07-16T16:04:36","date_gmt":"2013-07-16T14:04:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=42086"},"modified":"2013-07-17T15:35:50","modified_gmt":"2013-07-17T13:35:50","slug":"cell-c-where-the-billions-will-go","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/mobile\/42086\/cell-c-where-the-billions-will-go\/","title":{"rendered":"Cell C: where the billions will go"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The recent injection of around R5.7-billion into <a title=\"Cell C\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1641-Cell-C\">Cell C<\/a> will primarily be used for network roll-out, particularly in the Gauteng area, Cell C CEO <a title=\"Alan Knott-Craig\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1642-Alan-Knott-Craig-%28Senior%29\">Alan Knott-Craig<\/a> recently told MyBroadband.<\/p>\n<p>This cash comes from <a title=\"Oger Telecom\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/3055-Oger-Telecom\">Oger Telecoms<\/a> which invested a further $350-million (around R3.5-billion) and key lenders \u201cincluding <a title=\"Nedbank\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2626-Nedbank\">Nedbank<\/a> and the <a title=\"Development Bank of South Africa\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/7242-Development-Bank-of-Southern-Africa-DBSA\">Development Bank of South Africa<\/a>\u201d which provided R2.2-billion.<\/p>\n<p>Cell C wants to improve and expand its network from the South of Gauteng near Vereeniging to as far North as Bela-Bela, Knott-Craig said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that they also want to invest in capacity upgrades as traffic on the Cell C network has doubled in the last 15 months.<\/p>\n<p>Knott-Craig also said that for them to gain the market share they need to be sustainable will cost money. \u201cDistribution channels are not free,\u201d Knott-Craig said.<\/p>\n<p>Asked whether the cash injection would help Cell C fix the network problems users have been reporting, Knott-Craig said, \u201cYes.
