{"id":42097,"date":"2013-07-16T23:12:34","date_gmt":"2013-07-16T21:12:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=42097"},"modified":"2013-07-17T10:32:24","modified_gmt":"2013-07-17T08:32:24","slug":"fnb-strides-towards-mobile-banking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/banking\/42097\/fnb-strides-towards-mobile-banking\/","title":{"rendered":"FNB strides towards mobile banking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"FNB\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1730-FNB-First-National-Bank\">FNB<\/a> says that\u00a010% of its banking clients\u00a0accessed its website\u00a0via a smart device\u00a0over the past year to June 2013, up from 4% previously.<\/p>\n<p>The bank went live with its revamped\u00a0website on\u00a0Sunday (14 July 2013), aimed at an improved user experience and a responsive design enabling scalability to multiple devices.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At least 900,000 clients have accessed FNB.co.za via a smart device and 10% of banking clients are accessing via a smart device&#8230;and growing. It was only 4% last year,&#8221;\u00a0FNB CEO of Online Banking\u00a0<a title=\"Lee-Anne van Zyl\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/8415-Lee-Anne-van-Zyl\">Lee-Anne van Zyl<\/a>\u00a0told BusinessTech.<\/p>\n<p>The bank noted that the most popular mobile device for FNB Online Banking is the Apple iPad, accounting for a 60% market share.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, the bank announced that its FNB Tablet App has in excess of 20,000 active users across iPad, Android and Windows 8, bringing the total active apps base to 520,000.<\/p>\n<p>In May FNB said that it attracted\u00a02.8 million unique visitors to its website each month.<\/p>\n<p>And in delivering its results for the six months ending December 2012, the bank\u00a0reported a 29% rise in online banking customers year-on-year, to 1.5 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are pushing over 100 million transactions per month with R7 trillion in value per annum,\u201d a spokesperson for the bank told BusinessTech of its online banking activity.<\/p>\n<p>During the interim reporting period announced in March, FNB said it sold more than\u00a050,000 smart devices, with\u00a0364,511 devices paired with the FNB App.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/top-10-mobile-devices.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-42096\" alt=\"top 10 mobile devices\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/top-10-mobile-devices.jpg\" width=\"629\" height=\"419\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/top-10-mobile-devices.jpg 629w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/top-10-mobile-devices-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 629px) 100vw, 629px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0Teething problems<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The launch of the new site has come with a fair amount of criticism. On Monday (15 July),\u00a0online discussions surrounding the site were marred with complaints about glitches, technical faults and errors in data representation.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to the complaints about technical issues, van Zyl\u00a0explained that issues came about due to an increase in customers logging in.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, van Zyl said: &#8220;Online banking services are working normally and we have further increased capacity in our Call Centre to address customer queries regarding some new functionalities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are also some new interfaces creating a short learning curve.
