{"id":42136,"date":"2013-07-17T10:27:24","date_gmt":"2013-07-17T08:27:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=42136"},"modified":"2013-07-17T10:28:35","modified_gmt":"2013-07-17T08:28:35","slug":"nec-to-exit-smartphone-business-nikkei","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/mobile\/42136\/nec-to-exit-smartphone-business-nikkei\/","title":{"rendered":"NEC to exit smartphone business: Nikkei"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Japan&#8217;s NEC Corp plans to exit its loss-making smartphone business after a deal with Chinese PC maker Lenovo Group failed to materialize, the Nikkei reported.<\/p>\n<p>The two companies have a partnership in the personal computers business and NEC was in talks with Lenovo for a deal for its smartphones operations since late 2012, the Japanese daily reported.<\/p>\n<p>The Japanese electronics company had offered Lenovo a majority stake in NEC Casio Mobile Communications, its subsidiary that makes smartphones.
