Leon Perlman<\/a>, chairman and founder\u00a0of Wireless Application Service Provider Association (Waspa<\/a>),\u00a0is leaving the association at the end of July as he is going abroad for an extended period.<\/p>\n

Perlman will continue to be involved with Waspa\u00a0in a consulting capacity, offering his extensive expertise to the Wasp\u00a0industry.<\/p>\n

A by-election will be held shortly to fill the resultant vacancy on the Waspa\u00a0Management Committee (Mancom), the association said.<\/p>\n

Perlman, who recently completed a Doctorate in Law on Mobile Financial Services, will be using his expertise in this field in a number of diverse markets around the world.<\/p>\n

Casper de Villiers<\/a>, Waspa\u00a0vice-chairman, says Perlman has been a key stakeholder in Waspa\u00a0since it’s founding in 2004.<\/p>\n

\u201cLeon has provided a unique blend of commercial and regulatory expertise that has benefited the WASP industry in South Africa. During his tenure, the Waspa\u00a0Mancom assisted the industry in becoming a multi-billion Rand market, while at the same time putting extensive protections in place for consumers.”<\/p>\n

Perlman has\u00a0also served as the chairman and vice-chairman of International Audiotext regulators Association (IARN).<\/p>\n

A former scientist, he has been in the telecommunications industry since the early 1990s.<\/p>\n

He holds the degrees BSc, BSc (Hons), MSc, BProc, LLB, and is currently completing a Doctorate of Laws (LLD) at the University of South Africa.<\/p>\n
