Online salary, benefits and compensation information company, PayScale<\/a> has compiled a top 20 list of the most and least loyal employees in the Fortune 500 companies.<\/p>\n

Payscale’s report recorded data collected from 250,000 people working at Fortune 500 companies in the past year (July 1, 2012 to July 1, 2013).<\/p>\n

“Once upon a time, it was common practice for somebody to dedicate most of their career to one company in exchange for a gold watch and a swanky retirement party,” PayScale said.<\/p>\n

However, according to PayScale’s data, on average the typical employee stays at a company for just 3.68 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cOverall, employee loyalty is not what it used to be,” said Katie Bardaro<\/a>, lead economist at\u00a0PayScale speaking to BusinessInsider.<\/p>\n

“Numerous studies have put employee loyalty to companies at an all-time low and we see this in our data. Less than 10 firms on the list have employees with tenure of 10 years or more.”<\/p>\n

She noted that tenure – which indicates how much time an employee is at a company – is not a true measure of loyalty, and includes more personal measurements such as pay, company culture and policies.<\/p>\n

“It’s about job satisfaction and what you would give up to stay with the company,” she said.<\/p>\n

Least loyal employees<\/h3>\n

When it comes to tech companies in the Fortune 500, Internet giants Amazon<\/a> and Google<\/a> have some of the highest employee turnover, with workers sticking around for around one year before moving on.<\/p>\n

Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company has the highest turnover, according to PayScale, with employees staying for an average of nine months.<\/p>\n

On the flip side of the coin, employee loyalty is not completely extinct, with companies such as General Motors<\/a> and Xerox<\/a> keeping employees around for up to 10 years.<\/p>\n

According to PayScale, Kodak<\/a> tops the list for most loyal employees, with the median worker tenure lasting as long as 20 years.<\/p>\n
