{"id":433917,"date":"2020-09-16T14:46:06","date_gmt":"2020-09-16T12:46:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=433917"},"modified":"2020-09-17T12:08:40","modified_gmt":"2020-09-17T10:08:40","slug":"you-can-now-get-a-powerwall-directly-from-tesla-for-r167000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/technology\/433917\/you-can-now-get-a-powerwall-directly-from-tesla-for-r167000\/","title":{"rendered":"You can now get a Powerwall directly from Tesla for R167,000"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Electric vehicle and clean energy giant Tesla has opened up online reservations for its Powerwall battery pack in South Africa, which will<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tesla.com\/en_za\/powerwall\/design\"> set you back R166,800<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Powerwall is a home battery that stores excess energy for use when you need it, provides backup power to your home during grid outages, and keeps your appliances running in your home at night or during grid outages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCustomers for Tesla\u2019s Energy products in South Africa can now find out more, reserve, or enquire through a new South African webpage,\u201d Tesla said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCustomers can learn about Tesla\u2019s rechargeable home battery and businesses and utilities can find out more about industrial and utility-scale battery storage in the form of Megapack.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The system can be paired with solar energy grids, which will recharge the batteries during sunlight hours. Without solar, the batteries are recharged from the main energy grid.<\/p>\n<p>This marks the first time that Tesla has made the product available locally, through its own customer-facing web page. The unit itself costs R143,300, with additional equipment fees of R23,300.
