most valuable brands"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>South African mobile operators and banking institutions top the list of South Africa\u2019s most valuable brands, according to a new report.<\/p>\n<p>Launched in 2012, the BrandFinance South Africa\u2019s 50 Most Valuable Brands survey measures the financial brand value of South African companies that operate both within and outside of the country.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"BrandFinance\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/9554-BrandFinance\">BrandFinance<\/a>\u2019s brand value is an estimate of the \u201cnet present value of the estimated future cash flows attributable to the brand\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>According to BrandFinance chairman, <a title=\"Thebe Ikalafeng\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/9552-Thebe-Ikalafeng\">Thebe Ikalafeng<\/a>, the top 50 most valuable brands listed account for almost R300 billion &#8211; 3.3% of the R9 trillion market cap of the 400 listed companies on the JSE.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What these results show \u2013 and affirms \u2013 is that Africa&#8217;s premier Brand Building nation, South Africa continues to inspire with the successes and pace that <a title=\"MTN\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1640-MTN-Group\">MTN<\/a>, Africa\u2019s most valuable global brand, is setting for peer brands and businesses,&#8221; Ikalafeng said.<\/p>\n<p>MTN is the only African brand to be listed in the BrandFinance Global 500.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With a value of R43.1 billion and a AAAbrand rating, MTN maintains its position at the top of the table,&#8221; said BrandFinance MD, <a title=\"Ollie Schmitz\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/9553-Ollie-Schmitz\">Ollie Schmitz<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>South Africa&#8217;s biggest mobile operator and rival to top-dog, MTN, <a title=\"Vodacom\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1639-Vodacom\">Vodacom<\/a> placed second with a brand value of R19.386 billion.<\/p>\n<p>South African banking institutions are well-represented in the top 10 list, with <a title=\"Standard Bank\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2385-Standard-Bank\">Standard Bank<\/a> (4th), <a title=\"Absa\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1877-Absa-Bank\">Absa<\/a> (5th), <a title=\"Nedbank\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2626-Nedbank\">Nedbank<\/a> (6th) and <a title=\"FNB\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1730-FNB-First-National-Bank\">FNB<\/a> (8th) all featuring.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Capitec\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/3081-Capitec\">Capitec<\/a> increased its brand value by 42%, and moved up seven spaces to 33rd, overall &#8211; the biggest change in brand value over the past year.<\/p>\n<p>Other telecoms and tech players in the top 50 include <a title=\"MultiChoice\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1878-MultiChoice\">MultiChoice<\/a> (16th), <a title=\"Telkom\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1637-Telkom\">Telkom<\/a> (18th), <a title=\"Media24\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/6347-Media24\">Media24<\/a> (22nd) and <a title=\"Altech\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1725-Altech\">Altech<\/a> (40th).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_43466\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Top 10 South African brands<\/p><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">A glimpse at global<\/h3>\n<p>In terms of global brands, Apple maintained the top position with a brand value of US$87.304 billion, though rival, Samsung, climbed 4 spaces to second position with a brand value of US$58.771 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Samsung&#8217;s climb to second pushed former number two, Google, to
