Telkom<\/a> says it will push on and implement a wage agreement it reached with the Communication Workers Union (CWU<\/a>) last week.<\/p>\n

This follows a meeting with South African Communications Union (Sacu) on Wednesday (31 July 2013) after which, Telkom said, Sacu President Michael Hare<\/a> indicated that Sacu “will sign the agreement next week”.<\/p>\n

“Based on the outcome of SACU’S ballot process, 45% participated – of which, we did not get an outright majority not to accept the company\u2019s offer as we traditionally work on mandates, [thus] we are obliged to conclude an agreement with Telkom,\u201d Hare said.<\/p>\n

Telkom has initiated the implementation process which will entail a special payroll run and the payment of part of the back pay by Wednesday, 7 August 2013 – with the rest being paid out on Friday, 23 August 2013.<\/p>\n

Telkom said that it would implement the agreement in respect of all employees falling within the defined bargaining unit – including members of union Solidarity.<\/p>\n

Solidarity spokesperson, Marius Croupcamp<\/a> previously told BusinessTech that it \u201cwill not sign that agreement,\u201d but conceded that Telkom would likely implement its wage terms unilaterally anyway.<\/p>\n
