Financial services firm, FNB<\/a>, says its has\u00a0sold more than 175,000 devices since\u00a0October 2011, adding to rumours that the bank wants to\u00a0launch an FNB-branded cellphone business.<\/p>\n

Industry speculation suggests that\u00a0FNB\u00a0is in discussions with\u00a0Cell C<\/a>\u00a0to become a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), with the aim of offering a range of mobile products to its banking customers.<\/p>\n

In June, the bank announced that its FNB Tablet App had in excess of 20,000 active users across iPad, Android and Windows 8, bringing the total active apps base to 520,000.<\/p>\n

Delivering its results for the six months ending December 2012, the bank reported a 29% rise in online banking customers year-on-year, to 1.5 million.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0July 2013, FNB went live with its new look banking website, which updated the site\u2019s visual and systems, as well as making access to digital banking scalable across all platforms.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince being the first to launch the innovative Smartphone and Tablet offer in October 2011, FNB has sold more than 175,000 devices. We have now added more options for clients – enabling clients to choose a cost-effective package, most suited to customers\u2019 needs,\u201d said Kartik Mistry<\/a>, head of smart devices at FNB’s Core Banking Solutions.<\/p>\n

\u201cSmart devices are now an integral part of our daily lives; customers want the latest gadgets but don\u2019t want a dent in their pocket. The next logical step is to give clients the freedom to choose packages best suited to their lifestyles\u201d Mistry said.<\/p>\n
