The Hawks are investigating a multimillion rand Electronic National Traffic Information System (eNatis) contract after allegations of fraud emerged, The Times reported on Monday.<\/p>\n
“The case has to do with eNatis…that the contract [allegedly] did not go through tender processes,” Hawks spokesman Captain Paul Ramaloko was quoted as saying.<\/p>\n
Tasima, the consortium allegedly at the centre of the eNatis contract, was being accused of billing the transport department R12-million for work not done, according to the newspaper.<\/p>\n
The consortium was awarded the R403-million contract for licensing administration in 2001. From 2007 it was renewed on a month to month basis.<\/p>\n
Tasima is involved in a court battle to recoup R118-million from the department in what it alleges are unpaid fees.<\/p>\n
In an affidavit filed in court in February, the Road Traffic Management Corporation’s former CEO Collins Letsoalo said some of the fees claimed by Tasima were in dispute.<\/p>\n
“This complaint relates to a claim of R12-million that was invoiced by [Tasima] for the work that it did not do. The services in question were rendered by a company called MSRD [Mandate Strategy Roadmap and Delivery] and were completed by March 2010,” he said in the affidavit.<\/p>\n
