{"id":44314,"date":"2013-08-16T14:23:00","date_gmt":"2013-08-16T12:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=44314"},"modified":"2013-08-16T14:51:28","modified_gmt":"2013-08-16T12:51:28","slug":"south-africas-favourite-bank-surprise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/banking\/44314\/south-africas-favourite-bank-surprise\/","title":{"rendered":"South Africa\u2019s favourite bank surprise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Results from Sunday Times Top Brands\u00a0Survey finds Standard Bank to be South Africa\u2019s favourite bank, having leap-frogged both Absa and FNB who filled the top two spots in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Coca-Cola was rated as SA&#8217;s overall favourite consumer brand (Index score 94.13), followed by Koo (93.96), representing a swap from their positions in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>KFC came in third, followed by Tastic, Nokia, Sunlight, with Samsung 10th.<\/p>\n<p>For retail banks, Standard Bank scored highest (67.76), while Absa slipped down to second (65.41), from its top position in 2012. FNB also dropped a spot in 2013 (65.39), to place third, ahead of Nedbank (57.66), which remained in fourth place, ahead of Capitec (57.53).<\/p>\n<p>In the category of &#8220;most spontaneously aware&#8221; however, \u00a0Absa placed first, and also ranked as the most used brand in the banking space.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_44312\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Top Retail bank brands<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Mobile providers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Results from the 15th\u00a0edition of the survey found that for telecommunications providers, Vodacom again ranked first (76.93), followed closely by MTN (75.35), then Cell C, Telkom, and 8ta (now Telkom Mobile).<\/p>\n<p>The survey noted that MTN was first for &#8220;most id=\"caption-attachment-44313\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Top Telecom brands<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Mobile phones<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For mobile phones, Nokia again topped the list with an Index score of 83.70, far ahead of BlackBerry at 68.28, followed by Samsung at 61.85, and Apple\u2019s iPhone at 55.89.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_44311\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption Cellphone brands<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Sunday Times also ranked top brands in the social networking space for the first time, with Facebook winning out, ahead of Google+, then \u00a0Twitter, and YouTube.<\/p>\n<p>TV service providers were also ranked, with e-tv placing ahead of SABC1, DStv Premium, SABC2, DStc Compact, SABC32, and TopTv, last.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">More on top
