Minister of Communications Yunus Carrim<\/a> will wait on the outcome of the Public Service Commission before deciding whether to take action against senior Department of Communications (DoC<\/a>) officials, he said today (20 August 2013).<\/p>\n

\u201cI conferred with the Chief State Law Advisor, Enver Daniels and was advised that I should await the outcome of the investigation by the Public Service Commission,\u201d Carrim said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce the outcome is determined and the matter referred to my office, I will take further advice and decide on appropriate action,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

This follows a recommendation from the Parliament\u2019s Joint Committee on Ethics that deputy directors-general Themba Phiri<\/a> and Sam Vilakazi<\/a> be investigated by the Public Service Commission.<\/p>\n

The committee\u2019s findings implicated the senior DoC officials in the scandal that resulted in former Minister of Communication being found guilty of abusing her power and lying to parliament.<\/p>\n

The committee found Pule guilty of abusing her power, and for wilfully misleading the panel with regards to the relationship she had with businessman Phosane Mngqibisa<\/a>, which was found to be her de fact permanent spouse.<\/p>\n

Pule was found guilty of \u201ccausing improper benefits to be afforded to Mr Phosane Mngqibisa on the basis of his relationship with her\u201d.<\/p>\n

In July, during a presidential cabinet reshuffle, Jacob Zuma fired Pule from her role as communications minister. However, Pule remained in government as a member of parliament.<\/p>\n

Pule was also subsequently appointed to the Portfolio Committee of Transport.<\/p>\n
