{"id":45027,"date":"2013-08-30T12:36:51","date_gmt":"2013-08-30T10:36:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=45027"},"modified":"2013-09-20T11:07:45","modified_gmt":"2013-09-20T09:07:45","slug":"telkom-executive-pay-shock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/telecommunications\/45027\/telkom-executive-pay-shock\/","title":{"rendered":"Telkom executive pay shock"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While former <a title=\"Telkom Group\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1637-Telkom\">Telkom Group<\/a> CEO, <a title=\"Pink Moholi\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1667-Nombulelo-Pinky-Moholi\">Pinky Moholi<\/a> earned a cool R11.6 million in the last financial year, she wasn&#8217;t the top earning executive at the telco.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, 29 August 2013, Telkom published its annual report, revealing the company&#8217;s executive remuneration for the year ended 31 march 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Former CEO, Pinky Moholi walked away from the telco with a paycheque of R11.63 million. Her pay comprised a salary of R6.4 million, plus a short-term incentive of R2.6 million and other benefits of R2.5 million.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_45030\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Telkom-Exec-pay.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-45030\" class=\"size-full wp-image-45030\" alt=\"Telkom Exec pay\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Telkom-Exec-pay.png\" width=\"600\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-45030\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Telkom Executive pay<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Surprisingly, Moholi was not the top earner for the financial year.<\/p>\n<p>Controversial former MD of Telkom International, Motlatsi Nzeku was in fact the highest paid at the company, having resigned with an &#8220;early retirement&#8221; settlement of R13 million on top of his R660,621 salary.<\/p>\n<p>Nzeku was sacked by Telkom and publicly slated for poor performance in 2009, but was successfully reinstated as MD of Telkom International after private arbitration. Nzeku &#8220;retired&#8221; from the company in June 2012.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Telkom Mobile\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/8232-Telkom-Mobile\">Telkom Mobile<\/a> head, <a title=\"Attila Vitai\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/6044-Attila-Vitai\">Attila Vitai<\/a>, was paid a total of R8.47 million for the year, including a sign-on bonus of R5.5 million. Vitai joined the company in November 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Telkom chief financial officer, <a title=\"Jacques Schindehutte\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/3315-Jacques-Schindehutte\">Jacques Schindehutte<\/a> was paid R8.4 million, including a base salary of R4.9 million, incentives of R2.2 id=\"caption-attachment-45029\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Telkom Executive pay<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In recent months, Telkom&#8217;s top management has shown renewed faith in the company through the acquisition of more shares.<\/p>\n<p>In late July, Schindeh\u00fctte purchased 55,000 shares at a value of R994,340.38, following in the footsteps of current CEO <a title=\"Sipho Maseko\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2088-Sipho-Maseko\">Sipho Maseko<\/a>, and chairman <a title=\"Jabu Mabuza\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/6039-Jabulane-Albert-Mabuza\">Jabu Mabuza<\/a>, who bought 52,520 shares worth R999,980 and 26,000 shares worth R497,581, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Telkom\u2019s share price has lifted 36.7% or R6.21 since January (Open price: R16.93).<\/p>\n<p>In noon trade on the JSE, Telkom was trading 2.3%, or 52 cents higher to R23.14,
