{"id":45041,"date":"2013-09-01T23:10:12","date_gmt":"2013-09-01T21:10:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=45041"},"modified":"2013-09-02T10:38:09","modified_gmt":"2013-09-02T08:38:09","slug":"what-sas-tech-top-dogs-get-paid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/45041\/what-sas-tech-top-dogs-get-paid\/","title":{"rendered":"What SA&#8217;s tech top dogs get paid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The latest financial reports reveal which telecommunications executives earned the highest salaries over the last financial year.<\/p>\n<p>Topping the list as the highest paid CEO in telecoms and tech, <a title=\"MTN\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1640-MTN-Group\">MTN<\/a>\u2018s <a title=\"Sifiso Dabengwa\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1729-Sifiso-Dabengwa\">Sifiso Dabengwa<\/a> ended the 2012\/2013 financial year R23.5 million rand richer. This includes a base salary of R8.4 million, benefits of R1.678 million and a bonus of R13.45 million.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Blue Label Telecom\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2998-Blue-Label-Telecoms\">Blue Label Telecom<\/a>&#8216;s Levy brothers were each paid a salary of R13.309 million for the year, while former <a title=\"Telkom\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1637-Telkom\">Telkom<\/a> CEO, <a title=\"Pinky Moholi\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1667-Nombulelo-Pinky-Moholi\">Pinky Moholi<\/a>, who was succeeded by <a title=\"Sipho Maseko\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2088-Sipho-Maseko\">Sipho Maseko<\/a> in April 2013, ended her tenure at the telco with a paycheque of R11,63 million.<\/p>\n<p>Her pay comprised a salary of R6.4 million, plus a short-term incentive of R2.6 million and other benefits of R2.5 million.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Telkom Mobile\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/8232-Telkom-Mobile\">Telkom Mobile<\/a>&#8216;s head, <a title=\"Attila Vitai\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/6044-Attila-Vitai\">Attila Vitai<\/a>, took home annual compensation of R8.47 million for the year, including a sign-on bonus of R5.5 million. Vitai joined the company in November 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Former head of the now-delisted <a title=\"Altech\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1725-Altech\">Altech<\/a>, <a title=\"Craig Venter\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1706-Craig-Venter\">Craig Venter<\/a>, following a poor financial performance, decided to forego his bonus and walked away with R7.73 million in remuneration for the year, down from the R9.42 million earned the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>Altech has since been absorbed into parent company, <a title=\"Altron\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2457-Altron\">Altron<\/a>, whose CEO, <a title=\"Robbie Venter\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/2577-Robert-Venter\">Robbie Venter<\/a> earned R11.164 million in remuneration for the past financial year.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Vodacom\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1639-Vodacom\">Vodacom Group<\/a>\u2019s CEO, <a title=\"Shameel Joosub\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/4537-Shameel-Joosub\">Shameel Joosub<\/a> took home R6.7 million in the last financial year \u2013 the lowest amount across the big tech companies in SA.
