A woman and her husband have been ordered by the High Court in Pretoria to pay the husband’s ex-wife R40,000 after defaming her on Facebook, The Star newspaper reported on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The ex-wife took the couple to court as she felt two postings especially on the wife’s Facebook wall were defamatory.<\/p>\n
One of the wife’s reported posting’s was: “To all moms and dads… what do you think of people who allow step-brothers to bath their little sisters each night, simply because it would make the mother’s life easier???”.<\/p>\n
Judge Jan Hiemstra on Wednesday ordered the woman, who is a senior manager at the SA Revenue Service and who authored the posts, and her husband who was tagged in them, to compensate the husband’s ex-wife, according to the report.<\/p>\n
Hiemstra said that even though the husband did not author the posts, he was tagged, knew about them, and allowed his name to be coupled with his new wife.<\/p>\n
The husband and ex-wife were embroiled in legal proceedings, with the ex-wife granted an interdict against him last year to prevent him from coming near her home or work.<\/p>\n
