{"id":456252,"date":"2020-12-16T13:00:12","date_gmt":"2020-12-16T11:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=456252"},"modified":"2020-12-15T11:29:27","modified_gmt":"2020-12-15T09:29:27","slug":"these-are-the-most-watched-netflix-shows-and-movies-in-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/media\/456252\/these-are-the-most-watched-netflix-shows-and-movies-in-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"These are the most-watched Netflix shows and movies in South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Netflix has revealed its most popular content in South Africa for 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year, South Africans more than doubled the amount of their Netflix viewing compared to 2019,\u201d the streaming service said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the start of the year (pre-Covid lockdowns from Jan \u2013 Feb 2020), South Africans spent most of their \u2018TV Time\u2019 watching titles across multiple genres \u2013 however, from March to July, thrillers, action, musicals and reality had a surge in viewing hours, with kids content, drama and comedy+stand up taking the top three spots of the most popular genres throughout the year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The genres that saw the biggest boost in viewing, however, were fantasy, K-Dramas, and anime.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, many sports fans turned to sports-related documentaries on Netflix during lockdown to compensate for the lack of live sports.<\/p>\n<p>Netflix listed the most popular shows on its platform across various genres, as well as generally popular shows.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThroughout this year there have been some titles that South Africans couldn\u2019t get enough of,\u201d Netflix said. \u201cThese series and films enjoyed the longest run on South Africa\u2019s Top 10 lists after their launch on the service in 2020.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>These titles range across multiple genres and include the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness<\/li>\n<li>Blood &amp;
