{"id":456778,"date":"2020-12-13T17:46:12","date_gmt":"2020-12-13T15:46:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=456778"},"modified":"2020-12-13T17:47:35","modified_gmt":"2020-12-13T15:47:35","slug":"ramaphosa-to-address-the-nation-on-monday-over-covid-19-developments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/456778\/ramaphosa-to-address-the-nation-on-monday-over-covid-19-developments\/","title":{"rendered":"Ramaphosa to address the nation on Monday over Covid-19 developments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the nation at 20h00 on Monday evening (14 December) regarding developments related to South Africa\u2019s Covid-19 response.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">The address follows meetings with the National Coronavirus Command Council and provincial governments as the country battles with the impact of a second coronavirus wave.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to announce strict new lockdown restrictions in South Africa as a way of curbing rising infection rates.<\/p>\n<p>However, a member of the president&#8217;s executive told <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.news24.com\/citypress\/news\/with-sa-seeing-a-huge-spike-in-covid-19-infections-government-is-set-to-announce-harsh-restrictions-20201213\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">City Press<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0that it is unlikely that the entire country will return to a hard lockdown as experienced earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, higher restrictions are set to be introduced at a localised level in the country\u2019s coronavirus hotspot areas.
