{"id":461250,"date":"2021-01-15T11:04:22","date_gmt":"2021-01-15T09:04:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=461250"},"modified":"2021-01-15T11:04:22","modified_gmt":"2021-01-15T09:04:22","slug":"sap-says-covid-could-continue-to-squeeze-sales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/cloud-hosting\/461250\/sap-says-covid-could-continue-to-squeeze-sales\/","title":{"rendered":"SAP says Covid could continue to squeeze sales"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SAP SE\u2019s attempt to accelerate moving customers to cloud-based software began to see signs of success, although the company warned sales will continue to be impacted by the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>The corporate software maker said 2021 cloud and software revenue, excluding some items, will be as much as 23.8 billion euros ($28.9 billion) in constant currency.<\/p>\n<p>When currency is adjusted, revenue may fall as much as 4% from a year earlier, Walldorf, Germany-based SAP said late Thursday in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis outlook assumes the Covid-19 crisis will begin to recede as vaccine programs roll out globally, leading to a gradually improving demand environment in the second half of 2021,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n<p>Shares in SAP were up 1% in early trading on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>SAP has spent years attempting to move away from legacy software that resides in clients\u2019 computer servers, to cloud-based software, which is delivered over the internet.<\/p>\n<p>Chief executive officer Christian Klein is trying to develop such software, after his predecessors relied on acquisitions to do so.
