Managing director of Platco Digital, Maxwell Nonge, announced the 16 launch channels on its free satellite TV platform, OpenView HD.<\/p>\n
They are as follows:<\/p>\n
\u201cBe mindful that this is our launch offering, and we will be adding more channels in future,\u201d Nonge told media at a press briefing held in Melrose, Johannesburg on Wednesday, 18 September 2013.<\/p>\n
Although Nonge previously revealed that they expect to have 5 high definition (HD) channels available, only one was confirmed at the event: E-tv.<\/p>\n
Questioned about which other channels would broadcast in HD, Nonge said that he was not able to speak on behalf of the channels.<\/p>\n
\u201c[HD] is a big differentiator for them,\u201d Nonge explained, saying that the channels themselves would make announcements in this regard.<\/p>\n
The recommended retail price for the dish, decoder, and installation is R1,599, Nonge said. \u201cBut we urge consumers to shop around,\u201d Nonge said, suggesting that retailers might offer OpenView HD for less than that.<\/p>\n
Asked for more details on the pricing, Nonge said that subscribers will never have to pay ever again when their OpenView HD system is installed.<\/p>\n
He said that the installation price will not go up when they add more channels, but that they in fact expect it to come down.<\/p>\n
OpenView HD will launch in mid-October 2013, Nonge said.<\/p>\n
