{"id":46460,"date":"2013-09-23T14:48:52","date_gmt":"2013-09-23T12:48:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=46460"},"modified":"2013-09-27T10:28:34","modified_gmt":"2013-09-27T08:28:34","slug":"bbm-for-android-ios-why-the-hold-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/mobile\/46460\/bbm-for-android-ios-why-the-hold-up\/","title":{"rendered":"BBM for Android, iOS &#8211; why the hold up?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BlackBerry&#8217;s misery was\u00a0compounded\u00a0over the weekend after it was forced to\u00a0suspend the rollout of its BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) to iPhone and Android platforms after an\u00a0unreleased version was posted online which\u00a0&#8220;caused issues&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>BlackBerry was expected to launch BBM for Android on 21 September, but the group said it is\u00a0pausing the global roll-out of BBM for Android and iPhone to make sure the app \u201clives up to expectations\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The group had begun to launch BBM for iPhone in countries like New Zealand, Austalia, Malaysia, India and the UAE\u00a0on 22 September, but the Android version did not launch as expected.<\/p>\n<p>BlackBerry said in a blog post over the weekend:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Prior to launching BBM for Android, an unreleased version of the BBM for Android app was posted online. The interest and enthusiasm we have seen already \u2013 more than 1.1 million active users in the first 8 hours without even launching the official Android app \u2013 is incredible. Consequently, this unreleased version caused issues, which we have attempted to address throughout the day.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our teams continue to work around the clock to bring BBM to Android and iPhone, but only when it\u2019s ready and we know it will live up to your expectations of BBM. We are pausing the global roll-out of BBM for Android and iPhone. Customers who have already downloaded BBM for iPhone will be able to continue to use BBM.
