{"id":46499,"date":"2013-09-24T10:33:10","date_gmt":"2013-09-24T08:33:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=46499"},"modified":"2013-09-24T10:35:01","modified_gmt":"2013-09-24T08:35:01","slug":"chinas-smartphone-shipments-to-exceed-450-million","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/mobile\/46499\/chinas-smartphone-shipments-to-exceed-450-million\/","title":{"rendered":"China&#8217;s smartphone shipments to exceed 450 million"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The world&#8217;s biggest smartphone market China will likely ship in more than 450 million devices in 2014, at least a quarter more than this year, research firm IDC said.<\/p>\n<p>IDC said the increase will be driven by the government&#8217;s issuance of 4G licences and expectations that China Mobile, the world&#8217;s biggest wireless operator, would carry iPhones by then.<\/p>\n<p>China, a market dominated by Samsung Electronics and Lenovo Group, is expected to ship 120 million 4G-enabled smartphones to meet consumer demand for Internet connectivity.<\/p>\n<p>Smartphone shipments are expected to reach 360 million this year, IDC said.<\/p>\n<p>In the second quarter, Samsung and Lenovo maintained their lead in China with market shares of 18.5% and 9.8% respectively, while China Wireless Technologies Coolpad moved up a notch from the previous quarter to rank No.3.<\/p>\n<p>Apple&#8217;s iPhones saw market share and ranking fall to 5% and No.6 in the second quarter, from 9% and No.5 a quarter ago, IDC analysts said.
