{"id":471534,"date":"2021-02-28T08:20:24","date_gmt":"2021-02-28T06:20:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=471534"},"modified":"2021-02-28T08:22:39","modified_gmt":"2021-02-28T06:22:39","slug":"kwazulu-natal-municipality-has-over-100-ghost-workers-receiving-salaries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/471534\/kwazulu-natal-municipality-has-over-100-ghost-workers-receiving-salaries\/","title":{"rendered":"KwaZulu-Natal municipality has over 100 &#8216;ghost workers&#8217; receiving salaries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Msunduzi municipality in KwaZulu-Natal, which manages Pietermaritzburg and is the seat of the KZN legislature, has uncovered over one hundred &#8216;ghost workers&#8217; on its payroll.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sabcnews.com\/sabcnews\/msunduzi-municipality-uncovers-over-one-hundred-of-ghost-workers-in-its-payroll\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SABC<\/a><\/strong> reported that the municipality&#8217;s administrator Scelo Duma discovered the phantom workers following an employee headcount. The municipality was placed into administration in 2019 and faces frequent service delivery protests.<\/p>\n<p>Over 180 employees failed to appear for a headcount over a three month period.
