{"id":47304,"date":"2013-10-08T13:03:16","date_gmt":"2013-10-08T11:03:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=47304"},"modified":"2013-10-08T13:05:12","modified_gmt":"2013-10-08T11:05:12","slug":"new-100-note-goes-hi-tech","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/banking\/47304\/new-100-note-goes-hi-tech\/","title":{"rendered":"New $100 note goes hi-tech"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The US Federal Reserve has issued a new hi-tech $100 banknote,\u00a0following\u00a0a\u00a0decade of research and development into its new security features.<\/p>\n<p>The new note will go into circulation on Tuesday (8 October), and\u00a0incorporates\u00a0two new public security features in an attempt to stay ahead of any new threats.<\/p>\n<p>According to Michael Lambert, a deputy associate director at the Federal Reserve Board, the new note\u00a0is difficult for\u00a0counterfeiters\u00a0to replicate.<\/p>\n<p>The new features include a 3D security\u00a0blue ribbon on the front of the note, as well as a color-shifting bell, inside a copper-colored inkwell.<\/p>\n<p>The note retains older security features from previous designs, including a portrait watermark, and the embedded security thread that glows pink under ultraviolet light.<\/p>\n<p>Lambert said that the\u00a0design for the new note was first unveiled in 2010, but issuance was delayed due to &#8220;unexpected production challenges&#8221; relating to printing and engraving.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_47312\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/New-100-dollar-front-and-back.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-47312\" class=\"size-full wp-image-47312\" alt=\"New 100 dollar front and back\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/New-100-dollar-front-and-back.png\" width=\"600\" height=\"541\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-47312\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">New 100 dollar front and back<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>The 3D security ribbon<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Federal Reserve noted that if \u00a0you tilt the note back and forth while focusing on the blue ribbon, the the bells change to\u00a0100s\u00a0as they move.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When you tilt the note back and forth, the bells and\u00a0100s\u00a0move side to side. If you tilt it side to side, they move up and down.
