{"id":47518,"date":"2013-10-14T15:48:15","date_gmt":"2013-10-14T13:48:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=47518"},"modified":"2013-10-14T15:52:12","modified_gmt":"2013-10-14T13:52:12","slug":"tech-women-rule-fortunes-power-list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/47518\/tech-women-rule-fortunes-power-list\/","title":{"rendered":"Fortune&#8217;s most powerful women in tech"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tech&#8217;s female heavyweights account for four of the top 10 places in the latest edition of Fortune Magazine&#8217;s 50 Most Powerful Women in Business.<\/p>\n<p>Last year&#8217;s top woman, Ginni Rometty, chairman, president, and CEO of\u00a0IBM retains her spot in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Indra Nooyi, chairman and CEO of\u00a0\u00a0food and beverage company,\u00a0PepsiCo also retains her number two ranking on the list.<\/p>\n<p>Ellen Kullman, chairman and CEO of\u00a0chemical company,\u00a0DuPont moves up two places to third in 2013, while\u00a0Marillyn Hewson,\u00a0CEO and president of\u00a0Lockheed Martin is a major climber to fourth on the list from her ranking of 19th in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Hewson only stepped into the top job at Lockheed in January.<\/p>\n<p>Sheryl Sandberg,\u00a0COO at social networking giant,\u00a0Facebook also climbs to fifth, from\u00a0eighth having\u00a0launched Lean In, a bestselling book which sent her status into orbit.<\/p>\n<p>Irene Rosenfeld, chairman and CEO of\u00a0American multinational confectionery, food and beverage conglomerate,\u00a0Mondelez International, drops down two places in 2013, from\u00a0fourth last year, having\u00a0divided Kraft in two, and thereby\u00a0overseeing\u00a0a smaller operation as head of Mondelez International (Kraft&#8217;s former global snacking business).<\/p>\n<p>Patricia Woertz, chairman, president, and CEO of\u00a0\u00a0food-processing and commodities-trading corporation,\u00a0Archer Daniels Midland drops one place to seventh on Fortune&#8217;s list.<\/p>\n<p>CEO of Yahoo, the multinational Internet corporation,\u00a0Marissa Mayer is another big climber on the list, up to\u00a0eighth from her prior ranking of 14th.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Investors are happy: the stock is up 111% in the past 12 months, which has, in turn, lifted Mayer&#8217;s fortunes. Her 2012 total pay, including stock option awards, was $36.6 million, according to Equilar, a specialist in executive compensation data,&#8221; Fortune said.<\/p>\n<p>Ninth on the list is\u00a0Meg Whitman,\u00a0CEO of PC giant HP, although she is down from third in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;HP was a mess when Whitman arrived\u2014and still is. Competition is brutal in the shrinking PC business, and the Dow Jones industrial average booted HP from its ranks.
