{"id":475274,"date":"2021-03-12T08:17:24","date_gmt":"2021-03-12T06:17:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=475274"},"modified":"2021-03-12T08:18:10","modified_gmt":"2021-03-12T06:18:10","slug":"gauteng-already-has-a-plan-to-replace-e-tolls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/motoring\/475274\/gauteng-already-has-a-plan-to-replace-e-tolls\/","title":{"rendered":"Gauteng has a plan to replace e-tolls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gauteng Transport MEC Jacob Mamabolo says that his department has put together a comprehensive plan to replace the e-tolls scheme.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with eNCA, Mambolo said that the plan is based on proposals that have been properly modelled by technical experts.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;(The models) show that we can generate more money, outperform the current e-tolls financial targets, and protect the public purse.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We submitted the models, and today we have not heard a word back (from national government). What we are hearing is Aarto trying to smuggle issues back.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mamabolo said that the controversial e-tolls scheme never performed financially and will not raise sufficient money going forward.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the system was wrongly modelled from the start and that the national government failed to undertake a proper risk analysis.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This was a heroic failure.
