{"id":47535,"date":"2013-10-19T02:11:40","date_gmt":"2013-10-19T00:11:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=47535"},"modified":"2013-10-19T02:14:13","modified_gmt":"2013-10-19T00:14:13","slug":"sas-own-mobile-book-reader-everegg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/mobile\/47535\/sas-own-mobile-book-reader-everegg\/","title":{"rendered":"SA&#8217;s own mobile book reader: EverEgg"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Karen Brooks, a prominent local digital entrepreneur and author, has launched a new mobile book reading platform called EverEgg, which will enable\u00a0Mxit users to buy books to read on their smartphones.<\/p>\n<p>The platform was developed by Kazazoom \u2013 a South African technology innovation company that develops content and services for Mxit \u2013 and has the additional backing of EverAfrica \u2013 a new venture led by Alan Knott Craig Jnr.<\/p>\n<p>Brooks, who launched Mbooks \u2013 a mobile book reader \u2013 on Mxit in 2008, and was one of the 10 finalists pitching at the Africa 2.0 startup event earlier this year, said:\u00a0\u201cWhen Mbooks first launched on Mxit, I couldn\u2019t load my own content \u2013 but I knew that if I could find the right partners we\u2019d create something transformative and easier for both the content producers and consumers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, with EverEgg, large or indie publishers, as well as talented local authors can load their own books or short stories onto the platform\u2026Think of it as your eBook reader for feature phones and smart phones,&#8221; Brooks said.<\/p>\n<p>EverEgg enables publishers to quickly and easily load their own content as well as to edit it, and set pricing as they wish.<\/p>\n<p>Already on board are Panmacmillan, New Africa Books, Modjaji Books, and Burnet Media.
