Uber, the mobile-app taxi service start-up which launched its service in South Africa, in Johannesburg in August is now up and running in Durban.<\/p>\n
Based in San Francisco, California, Uber makes a mobile application that connects passengers with drivers of luxury vehicles for hire.<\/p>\n
Having already added Cape Town to its coverage area, the company announced in a blog: “Living in Durban just got better today, as secret Ubers started roaming across the streets of the city…”<\/p>\n
“We\u2019re still in testing phase, so please be aware that availability might be limited as we start testing our services. But you can be sure that we\u2019ll be adding more Ubers every day, tweaking and perfecting until we get things just right.”<\/p>\n
Last month Uber closed a fresh round of funding of\u00a0$258 million led by Google Ventures and TPG Capital LP.<\/p>\n
The company also has the backing of South African\u00a0David Frankel<\/a>, founder and managing partner of the Founder Collective, a seed-stage venture capital fund headquartered in New York City and Cambridge. Founder Collective was an early seed investor in Uber.<\/p>\n Frankel was co-founder and CEO of Internet Solutions (IS<\/a>), and was also formerly director of\u00a0Dimension Data<\/a>.<\/p>\nMore news on Uber<\/h3>\n
