The\u00a0Democratic\u00a0Alliance<\/a> is set to launch fresh legal action against the\u00a0Gauteng e-toll system.<\/p>\n

While details of the legal action will be discussed at a press briefing on Thursday (7, November 2013),\u00a0DA Premier Candidate for Gauteng, Mmusi Maimane<\/a>, “will announce new legal action against e-tolling in Gauteng,” the political party said.<\/p>\n

“This action relates to the constitutionality of legislation introducing e-tolling to Gauteng. This could have far-reaching consequences for its roll-out in the province,” the DA said.<\/p>\n

Last month (October), the Supreme Court of Appeal dismissed an appeal by the Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance (Outa<\/a>) in its e-toll challenge against the SA National Roads Agency Ltd (Sanral<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Government aims to implement e-tolling for Gauteng roads before December.<\/p>\n

The DA has long said it is committed to fighting urban e-tolls on major commuter highways.<\/p>\n

In October, it erected\u00a0billboards along Johannesburg\u2019s highways next to e-toll gantries, poking\u00a0fun at the African National Congress<\/a> and its role in the electronic tolling saga.<\/p>\n

The political party also\u00a0contributed R1 million to\u00a0Outa\u00a0to help fund its bid to fight e-tolls in court, following a\u00a0public call on 5 June to assist the opposition alliance in funding its court action.<\/p>\n
