{"id":4939,"date":"2012-01-30T13:24:25","date_gmt":"2012-01-30T13:24:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=4939"},"modified":"2012-01-30T13:27:26","modified_gmt":"2012-01-30T13:27:26","slug":"mtn-and-ericsson-extend-partnership-in-ghana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/mobile\/4939\/mtn-and-ericsson-extend-partnership-in-ghana\/","title":{"rendered":"MTN and Ericsson extend partnership in Ghana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mobile operator MTN (MTN) on Monday announced the extension of its managed services agreement with Ericsson for its Ghana operations.<\/p>\n<p>MTN boasts a 49% market share in Ghana with the local market up 18% in 2011 to around 10 million subscribers.<\/p>\n<p>The new deal marks the extension of the first managed services contract between Ericsson and MTN, originally signed in 2009 in connection to the rollout of MTN&#8217;s 3G network in Ghana. Under the extension, Ericsson is responsible for network operations, field maintenance and optimisation.<\/p>\n<p>Jon Hoffmann, CTO MTN Ghana said: \u201cOur first two years together achieved the results we were hoping for: we could focus on subscriber growth, and Ericsson delivered network reliability and efficiencies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>MTN will retain full ownership of the network and responsibility for its strategic direction, while Ericsson will manage the network operations, optimisation and field maintenance for MTN\u2019s 3G sites.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;MTN and Ericsson collaborate in many areas across this and other regions for several years now and in Ghana we are especially pleased to have been part of the journey towards 10 million subscribers,\u201d says Valter D`Avino, head of managed services Ericsson.<\/p>\n<p>Globally Ericsson has signed more than 300 managed services contracts in more than 100 countries.
