{"id":49463,"date":"2013-11-14T09:40:52","date_gmt":"2013-11-14T07:40:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=49463"},"modified":"2013-11-14T09:43:37","modified_gmt":"2013-11-14T07:43:37","slug":"fibreco-lights-up-2000km-fibre-network-in-sa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/internet\/49463\/fibreco-lights-up-2000km-fibre-network-in-sa\/","title":{"rendered":"FibreCo lights up 2,000km fibre network in SA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FibreCo Telecommunications has announced that its fibre network connecting Johannesburg, Bloemfontein, East London and Cape Town has gone live.<\/p>\n<p>According to FibreCo, its network is open-access and provides the shortest and fastest optical fibre connectivity between these cities today.<\/p>\n<p>The company is a partnership between Cell C, Internet Solutions, and Convergence Partners, which signed an agreement with ZTE Corporation of China in September 2011 for the construction of the fibre optic cable system.<\/p>\n<p>BT, Cell C, and Internet Solutions are also the first 3 key anchor tenants on the network, FibreCo said.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the anchor tenants, FibreCo said it has entered into a strategic partnership with MTN, which will have access to the FibreCo route between Johannesburg and East London, complementing MTN\u2019s own national and access fibre optic network footprint.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMTN is the first operator to light up new capacity on FibreCo\u2019s network into East London, a key landing point in a province with one the highest levels of &#8220;broadband deprivation&#8221;
