including gyms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sports, arts and culture minister Nathi Mthethwa has gazetted updated regulations around gatherings in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The regulations, which take immediate effect under the country\u2019s adjusted level 2 lockdown, details stricter rules for both indoor and outdoor gatherings.<\/p>\n<p>It also includes earlier cut-off times for establishments, sports, and other events, in line with the country\u2019s updated evening curfew.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the key regulations are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gatherings at cinemas and theatres are limited to 50 persons or less for indoor venues, and 100 people or less for outdoor venues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Gatherings at museums, galleries and libraries are limited to 50 persons or less for indoor venues, and 100 people or less for outdoor venues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Gatherings for gyms and fitness centres are limited to 50 persons or less for indoor venues, and 100 people or less for outdoor venues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Social and political gatherings are permitted to 100 persons or less for indoor venues and 250 persons or less for outdoor venues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>All of the above establishments must be closed by 22h00.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>If the above venues cannot accommodate social distancing of more than 1.5 metres between people, then no more than 50% of the capacity may be used.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The gazette includes additional responsibilities on the owners of the venues, including requirements around ventilation, the distribution of sanitisers and masks, and the providing of information to patrons.<\/p>\n<p>There are also strict requirements around the cleaning of equipment, the providing of food and the maintaining of social distancing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gyms<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Over and above the above restrictions relating to capacity, the gazette also includes specific regulations around gyms and fitness centres.<\/p>\n<p>These include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Members must maintain a distance of 1.5 metres in areas of the gym where there is low\/medium intensity exercise, and at least two metres distance in areas of high-intensity exercise.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Everyone entering a gym must wear a face mask at all times.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>If a person is undertaking vigorous activity, they do not have to wear a mask, provided they are at least two metres away from other patrons.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Studio classes should be reduced to accommodate the two-metre rule.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Markers should be placed on the floor indicating the 1.5 metre and two metre distance requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Gatherings.pdf\" width=\"100%\" height=\"600\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block;
