{"id":49982,"date":"2013-11-25T07:47:56","date_gmt":"2013-11-25T05:47:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=49982"},"modified":"2013-11-25T07:48:50","modified_gmt":"2013-11-25T05:48:50","slug":"e-tolls-pay-up-or-else","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/49982\/e-tolls-pay-up-or-else\/","title":{"rendered":"E-tolls: pay up or else"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Motorists are expected to pay within seven days after receiving e-toll bills or they would be handed over to debt collectors, Sanral chief executive Nazir Alli said on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are incentives included within the debt collection process that includes registering and getting an e-tag,&#8221; Alli told reporters at a briefing in Midrand on e-tolling readiness.<\/p>\n<p>The briefing took place at the operations centre of the SA National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If debt collection fails, the Criminal Procedure Act will come into effect and such motorists will receive summons to that effect.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The e-tolling system will commence on December 3.<\/p>\n<p>Those who registered for e-tags would receive a 40 percent discount on the tariffs, Alli said.<\/p>\n<p>Transport Minister Dipuo Peters criticised those who opposed e-tolling and said it was time they moved on.<\/p>\n<p>The National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) was misleading motorists, she said.<\/p>\n<p>The union criticised e-tolling after Peters announced the December 3 date, saying road users should refrain from voting for the ANC at next year&#8217;s general elections.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I did not expect a union to say such.
