The Democratic Alliance (DA) has called for the\u00a0CEO of the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) to be sacked,\u00a0following a damning Constitutional Court judgment on a\u00a0tender process, which it declared “constitutionally invalid”.<\/p>\n
Listed company,\u00a0Net1 UEPS Technologies<\/a>, a provider of alternative payment systems,\u00a0through its subsidiary, Cash Paymaster Services (CPS), was awarded a R10 billion contract by Sassa<\/a>\u00a0in January 2012,\u00a0for the administration of social grants over a five-year period.<\/p>\n AllPay, an Absa\u00a0company, and rival bidder, previously approached the High Court in Pretoria with concerns about the tender process,\u00a0claiming it to be illegal and invalid citing corruption.<\/p>\n Having failed in the\u00a0Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) in March, AllPay took its case to the\u00a0Constitutional Court.<\/p>\n The DA said in a statement that it would write to the Minister of Social Development, Bathabile Dlamini, demanding that the CEO of Sassa, Virginia Peterson, be fired.<\/p>\n According to the Court:<\/p>\n The Constitutional Court ruled that the tender would not be set aside for the moment to avoid disruptions in the grants process.<\/p>\n “We look forward to the 11 February 2014 hearing scheduled to determine a just and equitable resolution for this matter.
