Sunday Times published its annual Rich List on 1 December 2013, revealing that the top 100 richest people in South Africa have a collective personal wealth of R198.6-billion<\/strong>. This is equivalent to more than 6% of GDP.<\/p>\n

Richest South African<\/h3>\n

Christo Wiese<\/strong> is the richest South African. The chairman of Shoprite and Pepkor, his personal wealth is R27.4-billion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Patrice Motsepe<\/strong> of African Rainbow Minerals and Sanlam slipped from the 2012 top spot to second with a wealth of R22.5-billion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Stephen Saad<\/strong>, founder of Aspen Pharmacare, moved from ninth to third with wealth of R10.5-billion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Sunday Times observed that The Rich List remains predominantly white and male, with only two women making it into the top 100. Lawyer Sharon Wapnick is at position 65 worth R505-million, and Aspen pharmacare chairwoman Judy Dlamini is at 66 worth R502-million.<\/p>\n
